Password: A Holy Thursday activity

Usually Deuto Devo activities follow the order, Play–Talk–Pray. For the sake of celebrating Holy Thursday, we will change the order to Talk–Pray–Play.

You will need to prepare ahead for the Play activity and plan to serve bread with your meal.

Prepare - Being mindful of the reading levels of your children, choose a simple Bible verse to commemorate the Last Supper, such as Luke 22:19 ERV. Abbreviate for young children as shown in the photo. Write or type the verse, including the reference, and cut into words. In clockwise fashion, place one word, consecutively, beneath the rim of each plate.

Talk - Discuss how Jesus celebrated His last supper with the Apostles (followers, friends). Explain that He thanked God for the bread, broke some off, and gave it to them, telling them to remember Him when they ate it. Point out that Jesus also wants us to remember Him when we eat the bread. Explain that He is called the Bread of Life, food for our soul. Engage your family in breaking bread; explain that Jesus’ body was broken for us when He was nailed to the cross. Continue with Pray.

Pray - Dear Jesus, as we break the bread, we remember you were broken for us. Thank You for giving us food for our bodies and food for our soul.

Play - During the meal, ask each family member to find his word. Recite the verse, word by word, beginning with the member who has the first word. After the recitation, have each person pass his word to the one on his left. Recite again. Repeat until everyone has recited each word. Challenge family members to recite the entire verse and reference without assistance.
