Flowers of the Holy Spirit: Pointing to Jesus

 

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.—Matthew 5:16

It caught my eye as soon as I entered the store. I swooped it up and paid the cashier. When I returned home, I placed the stunning red poinsettia in the center of my dining table. Immediately its cheery color brightened the room. As I gazed at its beauty, I wondered how it became a popular Christmas decoration. I knew it originated from Mexico, but that was about all. Could its name have been derived from its pointed leaves?

Clues that Point to Christ: Have you seen them?

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

My grandchildren enjoy scavenger hunts, especially those on the farm. On Thanksgiving I planned one for them, more difficult than others they had completed. It started with a clue that led them to another and so on until they reached their prize. Each clue was tricky, a riddle of sorts with a fill-in-the-blank challenge. Here’s one. And by the way, all of the clues rhyme—so a clue within a clue.

        It’s a shape nailed on the shed.
